Special General Meeting
A special General Meeting of Members was held at the G.W.Hotel, Reading
on 25th January, 1908.
The attendance included Major Portal (Chairman), Messrs Bourke, Dodd,
Alston, à Court, Baxendale, R.H.Harrison, Joy, Ouvry, Mason,
Burgoyne, Secretan, Hanbury, Thornton, S.G.Garcke, Gordon Paterson, Sir
G. Clayton east, Bart: Jessop, A.C.Clarke, Hopkins Walters and
Whitecombe, Hon. Treasurer and Captain Waring, Hon. Sec.
1. The Notice convening the Meeting was read by the Hon. Sec. notice
appended. Letters of apology for non attendance were read.
2. The Minutes of the Third Annual General Meeting held on 20th April,
1907, were read, approved and signed.
3. The Chairman said that he desired to take this, the first
opportunity which had presented itself since the Gymkhana was held on
24th August of thanking Sir Gilbert East on behalf of the Members, for
his hospitality to the Club on that occasion, & for placing his
grounds at their disposal for the holding of the Gymkhana.
4. The Chairman explained the reasons for calling the Meeting at less
that the 14 days provided by the Rules, and asked the Meeting to
approve the action of the Committee in the matter. This action was
approved unanimously on being put to the Meeting.
5. The R.A.C. and the M.U.
The Chairman explained the reasons which had decided the Committee by a
majority to recommend to the General Meeting that the existing
affiliation to both bodies should be retained until the end of the year.
Letters from absent Members were read, and after a full discussion Sir
Gilbert Clayton East proposed, Mr Burgoyne seconded "that the
recommendation of the Committee be adopted, and that voting papers
should be sent out to Members at the proper time."
This was carried unanimously.
