Special General Meeting


A General meeting of members of the Club was held at the Great Western Hotel, Reading, on Saturday, March 12th, 1904, beginning at 3:30pm. The attendance included Sir Gilbert A.Clayton-East, Bart., in the chair, Messsers E.R.Portal, C.R. de LaSalle, W.Roalfe-Cox, NOrman H.Joy, J.G.Carew-Gibson, Sidney E.Garcke, W. Benett, W.H.Taylor, R.Hughes,C.Vallange, C.S.Holberton, George Alston, L.C.Ingram, Jas.T.Ochs, Rev. J.D.Ouvry, J.Hopkins Walters, and G.Shrapnell-Smith (Hon.Treas.). Lt.Col.W.Waring, Hon Sec., was prevented by indisposition from attending, and the Hon.Treas. acted for him throughout the meeting. The following business was transacted,

viz:-

I. The notice conventing the meeting (as appended) was read.

II. The minutes of the Formation meeting, held on Decr. 19th, 1903, were read, approved and signed.

III. The chairman announced that neither Sir Canander Henderson, nor his son, had been able to join the Committee. The other members of the C.ttee had appointed Mrs J.G.Carew-Gibson to the vacancy, and this now required confirmation. He formally moved that his be confirmed, which was seconded by Major E.R.Portal and unanimously agreed to.

IV. The proposed rules were submitted one by one and small amendments made.
   The rules, as below, were, on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Major Portal, unanimously adopted.

V. The chairman invited suggestions for membership of the Sports Committee. S.Norman Joy and Mr C.R.dela Salle were elected by the meeting, it being left to the Club C'ttee to make additions from their own number.

VI. The Chairman intimated that he intended to exclaim an invitation to the Club to hold a  meet & gymkhana at his residence, Hall Place, Maidenhead, on Saturday, May 28th.
   It was agreed that meets or other fixtures should follow this, at different places, on the last Saturday of the second Wednesday in each month, except August, up to & including September.

In the course of a general conversation which arose on this programme, various suggestions for events were made. A note was taken for the Hon.Sec. to make an analysis of the types of cars owned by members.

VII. It was reported that 70 members had joined.

A vote of thanks was accorded to the Chairman on the motion of the Rev.J.D.Drury.
