GENNERAL MEETING
The 6th annual general meeting of the Berkshire
Automobile & Aero Club was held at the Great Western Hotel,
Reading, at 3 o'clock on the afternoon of Wednesday the 6th April,
1910. Major E.R.Portal occupied the Chair, and there were also present:
Messr Waring & Messrs Selkirk, Shrapnell Smith, Harrison, Secretan,
Walters, Gordon-Paterson, Tribe, Hawkins, Ouvry & à Court.
(1) The minutes of the special general meeting held on the 22nd
December, 1909, were read, approved and signed.
(2) It was announced that letters of aplogy for non-attendance had been
received from Earl Roberts, the Marquis of Downshire, and Mr E.A.Potter.
(3) The Chairman reported that the affiliation agreement with the Royal
Automobile Club had been duly signed, in accordance with the
resolutions passed at the previous general meeting.
(4) The Chairman moved the adoption of the report and accounts, and Mr.
R.H.C. Harrision seconded.
After a short discussion, the report and accounts were
unanimously adopted.
(5) On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr. A.D. Selkirk,
Captain Waring was unanimously elected as Honourary life member of the
Club, in recognition of his services as Hon.Secretary from the end of
the year 1903 to the summer of 1909.
(6) The Chairman announced that Dr.A.Gordon-Paterson, Rev.J.D. Ouvry,
and Mr R.C.L. Powys-Lybbe had been nominated for the three vacancies on
the Committee. He declared these gentlemen duly elected.
The meeting unanimously confirmed the action of the
Committee in co-opting Mr .J.T. Moore-Brabazon as a member of the
Committee.
(7) It was unanimously agreed that the Hon. Solicitor should be added
to the ex-officio members of the Committee, and that the quorum at an
annual general meeting should be reduced from 12 to 7 members present,
the rules to be altered accordingly.
(8) The Hon.Treasurer subbmittted the budget for the year 1910. A long
discussion ensued with regard to the possibility of making provision
for a vote to the Berkshire County Council for tar-sprayingg, and the
County Surveyor, Mr. J.F. Hawkins, gave detailed explanations to
members with regard to the useful application of the money for the
benefit of the poorer villages. It was ultimately agreed that a
definite vote of £40 should be made, specifically for application
to the poorer villages in the county, and that it be left to the
Hon.Secretary and the Hon. Treasurer of the Club to approve the
allocation of the money.
(9) The meeting concluded with votes of thanks to the Hon.Secretary,
the Hon.Treasurer, and the Chairman.
