Fourth Annual General Meeting
The Fourth Annual General Meeting was held at Reading on
Saturday, 25th April, 1908.
The attendance included Messrs Portal (Chairman), à Court,
Bourke, Dodd, Sir G.Clayton East, Bt., Major Hanbury, Messrs Hawkins,
Jessop, Burgoyne, Blatch, Hopkins Walters, with Shrapnell Smith
(Hon.Treas.) and Captain Waring (Hon.Sec.).
1. The Notice convening the Meeting was read by the Hon. Sec. Notice
appended. Letters of apology for non-attendance were read.
2. The Minutes of the Special General Meeting held on 25th January,
1908, were read, approved and signed by the Chairman.
3. It was agreed that the Report and Accounts as circulated to Members
be taken as read. Their adoption moved by Dr. Walters, seconded by Mr
Bourke, and supported by Mr. Hawkins who explained the omission of
references in the Berks County Council Meetings to what had been done
by the Club in the matter assisting the Council by contributions
towards the cost of Tar Spraying. Copy of Report attached opposite.
4. At the request of the Chairman, the Hon.Sec. read the nominations
that had been received or election to the vacancies on the Committee,
& the number not being in excess of the number of vacancies the
Chairman formally declared that Messrs Potter and Selkirk and Dr. Mason
were duly elected.
5. The Chairman announced that there were no formal notices of motion,
but that the Meeting would be pleased to hear any remarks or comments
by Members. Mr Burgoyne raised a query in regard to Rule 25, upon the
subject of the signature of notices of motion by more than one member.
The Chairman explained in reply that this was to prevent frivolous
notices.
Mr Burgoyne also raised the question of paid assistance for the
Hon.Sec. upon which subject Dr. Walters, the Hon.Treas., the Hon.Sec.
and the Chairman also spoke. The Meeting expressed its unanimous view
that everything should be done to help Capt. Waring in the office of
Hon.Sec., details to be settled by the Committee.
6. Proposals for the programme for the ensuing season were discussed
and Mr.Burgoyne was thanked for an invitation to Broadlands. Proposals
for a hill climb, a Club luncheon or dinner, and other possible
fixtures were left in the hands of the Committee. Mr Dodd raised the
point of the further erectioin of warning posts and signals at
dangerous and awkward corners, and this matter was also left in the
hands of the Committee.
7. The formal business being concluded, the Chairman on behalf of the
Club asked Capt.Waring to accept a present of 6 silver candlesticks as
a token of appreciation of his services. Capt.Waring acknowledged the
presentation. Votes of thanks to the Hon.Treas. and to the Chairman
terminated the proceedings.
