BERKSHIRE AUTOMOBILE CLUB

The twenty-first Annual General Meeting of the Club was held on May 7th, 1926 at 11:30 at the Great Western Hotel, Reading.

Present: Dr. W.B. Secretan in the Chair, Major General Sir Walter Cayley, Mrs Bryan Churcher, Mrs Wilson Noble, Major Griffin, Mr R.W. Handley, Mr A.D. Selkirk & the Hon. Secretary.

1. The Chairman read the notice calling the Meeting. The Minutes were read, confirmed & signed.

2. The Chairman rose, and said that before proceeding he would like to propose a very sincere vote of condolence to the Chairman, Major Portal, on the loss of his son Mr Nigel Portal,  in a flying accident. He asked the Hon.Sec. to convey to Major Portal a message of sympathy from those present, seconded by Major Griffin & carried.

3. The Chairman presented the Annual Report and Balance sheet, which were taken as read. He was able to report another successful year. The Regatta being the chief feature of the Club. He wished, however, especially to mention the "Driving Tests", which encouraged careful driving. owing to the high standard of driving among competitors, and to the fact that the Club had agreed that a £3-3-0 prize should be given to holders of Class I certificates, the Driving Tests had cost the Club 50. He considered it money well spent.

The Chairman stated that in spite of the fact that this year's income exceeded that of 1924 by £40, there was a deficit of £18.16.2. This was due to the whole cost of the Driving Tests being charged against Income instead of against the accumulated Funds. The adoption of the Report and Balance Sheet was proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr A.D. Selkirk and carried.

4. The Chairman then submitted the Budget for the present year. He estimated the Expenditure at £208.10-0 and the Income at £233-10-0, leaving a Balance on the year of £25.0.0. Proposed by Sir Walter Cayley, seconded by Mr A.D. Selkirk and carried.

5. On the Proposal of Major Griffin and seconded by Mr Selkirk, Lord Downshire's election on the committee was confirmed.

6. The Chairman spoke on the Present Year, stating the Hon. Sec. had tried ot obtain an Enclosure for the Club at the Royal Show, but that this had not been found possible. At the Henley Regatta they would have an Enclosure as usual. If sufficient support was received fro Members it might prove possible to arrange for an Enclosure at one or two of the Point to Points.

7. On the proposal of Mr Selkirk, seconded by Mrs Bryan Churcher, the Hon. Auditor, Mr E.S. Shrapnell-Smith was re-elected.

8. At the request of some of the Members present the Hon. Sec. agreed to make enquiries as to the possibility of Garaging facilities at Maidenhead.
