BERKSHIRE AUTOMOBILE CLUB

The Twentieth Annual General Meeting was held on May 16th, 1925 at 11:30 at the Great Western Hotel, Reading.

Present:- Major E.R.Portal in the Chair, The Marquess of  Downshire, Major Stacy Hatfield, Mrs Hatfield, Messr A.D. Selkirk, G.V. de Pass, A.B. Lowry, S. à Court, C. Gray, E. Pratt, C.J. Blatch, Dr. Secretan, O.J.Llewellyn, E.S. Shrapnell-Smith, Mrs Wolferston, Miss Gordon-Patterson, Miss K. Brown.

1. The Chairman read the notice calling the Meeting. The Minutes were read, confirmed & signed.

2. Regrets for non-attendance were received from Capt. Vallange & Mr Handley.

3. The Annual Report which was taken as read, was proposed by Mr B. Lowry and adopted.

4. The Meeting accepted with much regret, the resignation of Col. Sir Leslie Wilson from the Office of President.

5. The Hon. Treasurer presented the accounts which showed that the receipts for the year totalled  £ 235-14-0, the expenditure amounted to £ 177-8-9 and the year ended with a credit balance of £ 58-5-3. The Funds of the Club amounted to £ 456-18-10. Proposed by Mr B. Lowry, seconded Mr A.D. Selkirk & carried.

6. The Chairman spoke on the past year, stating it had been a most satisfactory one, with an increase of membership, showing the efforts of the Club on behalf of members was appreciated. He was also glad to note that the account for legal assistance had not increased.

7. The Hon. Treasurer submitted the budget for the present year, estimating the expenditure at £ 215 and receipts at £ 240 leaving a balance of £ 25. Proposed Mr A.D. Selkirk. Seconded Mr Gray & carried.

8. Mr Shrapnell-Smith gave an interesting account of the Motor Driving Tests, which had taken place on May 4th, 5th, 6th and of which he had acted as sole judge. He stated the driving was of a very high standard, with the result that he had awarded 18 1st Class certificates and 5 2nd's. The 1st Class certificates carrying prices to the value of £3-3-0 were awarded to:-

Miss Dorothy Churcher, Dr Joyce, Miss K.N. Brown, Mr G. de Pass, Mr. Stacy Hatfield, Miss Lowry, Mr H. Portal, Mrs Bryan Churcher & Major E.R. Portal, Dr Secretan, the Marquess of Downshire, Miss Gordon Paterson, Lt.Col. Waithman, Mr Wolferstan, Brig.Gen. Yatman, Miss Pratt, Miss J. Waring, Miss Williams:

2nd Class certificates to:- Mr H. Blatch, Miss O. Pratt, Major Rhodes, Mr Gray, Mrs Wolfterstan. One car did not finish the course -

A hearty vote of thanks was proposed to Mr Shrapnell-Smith by the Marquess of Downshire and seconded by Mrs Stacy Hatfield, and carried with acclamation. The Chairman then presented the prizes -

9. The Chairman proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the Hon. Sec.

10. The chairman then left the Chair and his re-election, and that of the committee, was proposed by Mr B.Lowry and seconded by Mrs Wolfterstan and carried unanimously.

11. Mr E.S. Shrapnell-Smith was re-elected Hon. Auditor, proposed by Mr O.J. Llewellyn seconded by the Marquess of Downshire and carried unanimously.

12. The Meeting passed a hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman. Proposed by Mr. O.J. Llewellyn, seconded by Mr. A.D. Selkirk - carried unanimously.
