BERKSHIRE AUTOMOBILE
CLUB
The Eighteenth Annual General Meeting was held on
Saturday May 12th, 1923 at Ham House, Newbury, by kind permission of
the Country Road Club. Present - Major Portal in the Chair, Mrs
Churcher, Mrs Yatman, Miss Ryder, Mr Loder-Symonds, Mr à Court,
Col.James, Col. Yatman, Capt Vallange, Capt. Waring, Mr A.D.Selkirk, Mr
Shrapnell-Smith (Hon. Treasurer) & Miss Noble (Hon. Sec.). The
Chairman read the notice calling the meeting.
1. The minutes were read confirmed & signed by the Chairman.
2. The Chairman read letters of regret for non-attendance from the
President Lt. Col. Leslie Wilson, Capt. Llewellyn, Major Hatfield &
Dr. Secretan.
3. The Report was taken as read.
4. The Accounts were read by the Hon. Treasurer. Noting that Henley
Regatta had paid it's way in 1922, he said the Receipts were
£58-13-6 & expenses £50-19-0, leaving a balance of
£7-14-6. The Hon. Treasurer also pointed out 3 clerical errors in
the Hon. Auditors' accounts, which however did not alter the totals
which were correct. The Report & Accounts were then proposed by the
Chairman & seconded by Mr Shrapnell-Smith & put ot the Meeting
& carried.
5. The Hon. Treasurer budgetted for 1923 as follows:-
Subscriptions of £70 entrance fees. £10-10-0. Interest
£10. Badges £2, with a surplus for the year of £50.
The total assets of the Club at present value being £380.
The Hon. Treasurer porposed that as the 20th Anniversary of the
foundation of the Club would take place in December, it should be
commemorated by Luncheon, or a dinner & dance, or some other
festivity. As this would depend on the financial position of the Club,
it was decided to postpone the discussion until after the Henley
Regatta, when a special general Meeting should be called. The Budget
was then proposed by Mr à Court & seconded by Mr. Selkirk
& carried.
6. Mr F. Suttons' term of office on the committee having expired, Major
Hatfield & Mr R. Handleys' elections on the Committee were
confirmed, being proposed by the Chairman & seconded by Capt
Vallange & carried.
7. The Hon. Treasurer proposed that as the accounts were no longer of
the formidable volume of the early days of the Club, the Hon. Auditors
should be dispensed with & the accounts audited by one of the
members of the Committee, Mr � Court seconded & this was duly
carried. Mr Shrapnell-Smith himself kindly undertaking to do the
auditing.
8. The same arrangements were decided upon for Henley Regatta, with a
slight reduction in the charges. Members & one guest & one car
Free, extra guests 3/- cash including tax, cars 3/- each, teas 2/-,
Boats at night 2/6. It was proposed by Mrs Churcher that labels should
be supplied for tying to boats and this was agreed to.
9. Cricket Match. The Committee having decided to hold a boys cricket
match in August the provisional date of August 14th was fixed. Capt.
Llewellyn having withdrawn his offer to raise an eleven to play
Wargrave, it was decided that the Hon. Sec. should invite Lt. Col.
Leslie Wilson & Sir William Mount to do so.
10. The Chairman said how grateful he & the members were to Miss
Noble for the work she had given to the Club during the past year.
11. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman for
presiding.
